Special Prosecutor in Rick Perry Indictment, Michael McCrum, In Own Legal Hot Water – May Face 6 Months in Prison for Jury Tampering

It seems that Michael McCrum may have engaged in Jury Tampering, by allegedly telling a witness in a manslaughter case to just “get lost for awhile”, thereby keeping the witness from appearing in court.

In a signed affidavit, the witness said that she “felt intimidated by Mr. McCrum not to appear in court”

If Michael McCrum did participate in jury tampering, or played any part in the intimidation of the witness, he should be sent to prison for the full 6 months.

The Rick Perry indictment has just taken an interesting turn. Michael McCrum, the special prosecutor going after Rick Perry, has apparent legal troubles of his own.

According to TPNN, McCrum could possibly be facing 6 months in prison for jury tampering:

[McCrum] may be facing up to six months in prison for allegedly “deliberately” telling a witness in a manslaughter case to “get lost for awhile,” effectively keeping the witness from testifying in an intoxication-manslaughter case.

But McCrum denied any sort of intimidation against the defensive witness, saying, “I adamantly deny I did anything wrong with respect to any witness. I vehemently deny I did anything wrong.”

According to Texas Lawyer, Cliff Herberg, the first assistant D.A. in the case said he had an affidavit signed by the witness who said “she felt intimidated by Mr. McCrum not to appear in court”:

“The court gave Mr. McCrum an opportunity to respond in writing to explain his conduct, and after reading all of that, directed us to file the motion for contempt.”

Rosemary Lehmberg, the district attorney who is behind the Perry indictment, was arrested for drunk driving. Fox News writes, “Lehmberg’s drunk-driving arrest is at the heart of the abuse-of-power case against Perry. Perry was accused of improperly using his veto power to threaten to strip funding for Lehmberg’s Public Integrity Unit unless she resigned following her arrest.”

As the old saying goes “birds of a feather flock together.”
