McDonald’s and other fast food restaurants have started installing self-serve ordering kiosks, which allows the restaurant’s customers to place their own food orders, taking the fast food counter worker completely out of the equation.

I rarely eat fast food, so I really couldn’t care less if the fast food companies want to give in to the $15 minimum wage fight.Increasing the minimum wage will only hurt the fast food companies, the people who have to pay a lot more to eat at the restaurants, and the fast food restaurant employees who will eventually lose their jobs.

In the short-term, a $15 min wage will only force the fast food chains to raise their prices, as we are already seeing. Long term, fast food workers are pricing themselves out of their jobs, and right into being replaced by robots.

Soon there will even be even more automated food service robots installed to actually make the food, start to finish, and at that point basically none of the $15/hr workers will be needed anymore. Fast food restaurants of the future will employ one manager and one employee. After all, SOMEONE has to take out the trash.
