Elizabeth Warren’s great grandfather John Crawford – a white man – shot and killed an Indian
A Cherokee genealogist has found a Muskogee Times Democrat newspaper article from August 17, 1906 that says John H. Crawford, the great-grandfather Elizabeth Warren, was a “white man” who shot an Indian who attacked his son. The article didn’t say if the Indian man died, but with the healthcare back in the 1900, the chances are good that he didn’t live through the shooting.
…Cherokee genealogist Twila Barnes has discovered an August 17, 1906 article from the Muskogee (Oklahama) Times Democrat which states that John H. Crawford, the great-grandfather Elizabeth Warren claims was part Cherokee, shot and probably mortally wounded an Indian who had attacked his son.
The 1906 article, which can be seen here, clearly states that Crawford is white. As Barnes describes it:
