NJ State Police In Riot Gear Protect MetLife Stadium After New Jersey’s Hot 97 Summer Jam Concert Dissolves Into Dangerous Violent Mob

New Jersey State Police made 61 arrests as the people waiting in line to enter the Hot 97 Summer Jam concert at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium quickly turned into a scene of a violent mob this past Sunday.

The riot at MetLife Stadium required New Jersey State Police, dressed in riot gear, be called in to block the gates outside the Stadium from rioters trying to get in, and throwing objects like bottles. Of the 61 people arrested, many were charged with disorderly behavior, assault, trespassing and weapons possession.

“Barbaric — the way they treat our people is like animals. If there was another concert this would’ve never happened”

It’s 100% true that “If there was another concert this would’ve never happened”, because you will never see a riot like this at any rock or county concert. The people attending a rock or country concert probably paid just as much, if not more, for their tickets, but would probably never riot because it was taking longer than expected to get into the stadium, or because they couldn’t get tickets to the show.

From the video and pictures we have seen though, the people rioting outside MetLife Stadium were not treated like animals – far from it. The idiots rioting outside MetLife Stadium were treated like any dangerous mob of people should be treated, who are already in the midst of a riot, for almost no reason at all, putting thousands of lives at risk.

“security personnel at one of the entrance gates to MetLife Stadium were confronted by crowds attempting to illegally enter the sold out Summer Jam concert by climbing over fences and forcing their way through security personnel.”

Besides hip-hop, hat other type of concert would have to deal with mobs of people using violence to break into the stadium to see the concert, or throwing bottles at the police and stadium security? The rioting criminals obviously felt they should have been allowed into the concert with no security checks, or entitled to be let into the sold out show, despite not having a ticket, and took it upon themselves to rush the gate and violently force their way into the venue.

If ANYTHING was “barbaric” about the scene at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, it was the actions of the violent mob outside the stadium, not the crowd control.

It was chaos in the parking lot of MetLife Stadium Sunday night.

As CBS2’s Hazel Sanchez reported, hundreds of concertgoers ran from the gates of MetLife Stadium as police armed with riot gear blasted off tear gas trying to disperse the crowd.

Many people were overcome by the fumes.

“People been standing out here for over 3 1/2 hours just trying to get into a concert that they paid for,” said one concertgoer.

Thousands of hip-hop and music fans had converged on the stadium for the Hot97 Summer Jam concert, but hundreds were not allowed inside due to an apparent crowd control problem, Sanchez reported.

“We we arrived here about 4:30-5 o’clock, when we got here they had everybody standing outside in a mob,” said Aaron Martin. “…They wouldn’t let us in. When I asked him what was going on they said there was some sort of riot but they wouldn’t elaborate.”

The stadium was put on temporary lock down while an armored tank was brought in using a piercing whistle, forcing spectators to leave the property and parking lot.

The situation became so volatile, a CBS2 camera man was forced into his vehicle while police apprehended a man on the ground.

“Barbaric — the way they treat our people is like animals. If there was another concert this would’ve never happened,” said one concertgoer.

State police released a statement Sunday night saying “security personnel at one of the entrance gates to MetLife Stadium were confronted by crowds attempting to illegally enter the sold out Summer Jam concert by climbing over fences and forcing their way through security personnel.”

Sgt. Gregory Williams said arrests have been made, but could not provide further details.

The concert was headlined by Kendrick Lamar and Chris Brown.
