The southern slave holding states fought for the Confederates in the Civil War, because they didn’t want to give up their slaves, and wanted to keep the institution of slavery alive. After all, if they weren’t allowed to whip their slaves to get the work done, they would have to pay someone, or do the work themselves, and there is no way that an entitled Democrat would want to pay someone, or do the work themselves.
