You can tell that Rick Reilly is either not a golfer, or one of the dumbest partisan losers ever who is out to damage President Trump in any way possible. Personally, in Rick Reilly’s case, I’d think that it’s a lot of both.

Most people who play golf for fun do things that might be considered “cheating” if playing in a tournament, but really just makes the day of golf more enjoyable if done as a past time.

Say you hit a drive down the fairway, and the ball came to rest in someone else’s divot. A professional golfer would be required to hit the ball from that exact spot, even though the shot will be many times harder than if the ball stopped rolling 2 inches to the side, where it would not be sitting low in a divot.

Most amateur players, who are just out having fun, would go ahead and move their ball out of the divot, and play on – because to amateur golfers, it’s about how much fun you are having, not a strict adherence to the rules of the game.

Or say you hit your ball into a sand trap. Professional players are paid to hit the ball no matter the lie in the sand, while most amateur players might rake and place their ball in the sand to give them a good chance of getting a good shot out of the sand trap, or many players would move their ball out of the sand if it is hard-packed and and unplayable.

Neither of these examples are “cheating” when you are playing for fun. Honestly, if you are just playing golf for the fun of it, then there really is no such thing as “cheating”.

If someone is playing golf where the rules actually matter, like in a tournament, or for money, then moving one’s ball would most certainly be considered “cheating”, but if you are playing for fun then who is he actually cheating against? Himself?

When you play golf on the weekends, the name of the game is to just have fun. Rules are there to be broken.

A former ESPN writer has penned a new book in which he claims that President Trump is a notorious cheat, when it comes to the game of golf.
Longtime Sports Illustrated and ESPN sportswriter Rick Reilly, includes interviews and stories from a large group of people who have played with Trump, to put together a book titled: Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump.

“To say ‘Donald Trump cheats’ is like saying ‘Michael Phelps swims,’” Reilly explains in the book. “He cheats at the highest level. He cheats when people are watching and he cheats when they aren’t. He cheats whether you like it or not. He cheats because that’s how he plays golf … if you’re playing golf with him, he’s going to cheat.”

Reilly himself has played with Trump on several occasions.

The former ESPN scribe takes particular exception with Trump’s claim to possess a handicap of 2.8, an excellent score.

“If Trump is a 2.8, Queen Elizabeth is a pole vaulter,” Reilly quips.

According to the Hill:

The book also details Trump allegedly exaggerating or creating facts and figures about his golf courses. According to the Post, Reilly writes that Trump’s course at Bedminster boasts a plaque with a quote from course architect Tom Fazio that says ‘This is the best design I’ve ever done.’

Fazio told Reilly, ‘I don’t believe I said it exactly like that.’

Actor Samuel L. Jackson claims, “We clearly saw him hook a ball into a lake at Trump National [Bedminster, New Jersey], and his caddy told him he found it!”

Reilly also takes shots at the commander-in-chief for his shunning of golf etiquette. Specifically, Trump’s apparent habit of not removing his hat during handshakes after rounds. In addition to not taking his hat off in the clubhouse.

Reilly’s best explanation for these, and other alleged failings?: “Golf, is like bicycle shorts. It reveals a lot about a man.”
