Another week, another person with NFL ties accused of a horrible crime.
Dana Stubblefield, a former San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle, has been arrested and charged with the violent crime of raping a “developmentally delayed” California woman, and was released on $250,000 bail.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office said Dana Stubblefield assaulted the woman on April 9, 2015 at his home after she interviewed for a babysitting job.
“This was a crime of violence against a vulnerable victim. She was looking for a job and she was unconscionably assaulted.” – Deputy District Attorney Tim McInerny
After allegedly raping the woman, it has been reported that Stubblefield gave her $80 and sent her on her way. The woman immediately reported the rape at the Morgan Hill Police Department and the report said DNA evidence matched Stubblefield.
We don’t know if Stubblefield is guilty or not, but criminal NFL players being arrested seems to have become an all-too-common occurrence, and just about every week we read another story about an NFL player, or in this case an ex NFL football player being accused or charged with crimes.
It doesn’t surprise me that many NFL players are violent criminals, as the NFL makes most of their money off the on-field violence of their employees. I guess some violent NFL players just don’t know how to stop being violent when they leave the football field.
Former San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield was arrested and charged with five felony counts of raping a “developmentally delayed” woman.
According to the Mercury News, the incident occurred at Stubblefield’s San Jose home on April 9, 2015.
The victim had reportedly applied for a nannying job with Stubblefield earlier that day, when Stubblefield lured her back to his home under the pretense of paying her for taking the interview.
After the woman returned to Stubblefield’s home, the police report claims he picked her up and carried her to a different room where he forced her into oral and vaginal sex.
“This was a crime of violence against a vulnerable victim,” deputy district attorney Tim McInerny said in a statement. “She was looking for a job and she was unconscionably assaulted.”
A three-time Pro Bowler, Stubblefield played the 1993-1997 seasons with the 49ers and was a part of the Super Bowl XXIX champion team. He also spent time with Washington, Oakland and New England before retiring in 2004.
His charges include rape, rape of a victim incapable of giving consent, oral copulation, oral copulation with a victim incapable of giving consent and false imprisonment, all felonies.
Stubblefield was released on $250,000 bail Monday evening from the Morgan Hill Police and has an arraignment hearing scheduled for June.
He has vehemently denied the charges and claim he “is being unfairly targeted due to his celebrity and wealth by someone with full motivation to lie.” In a statement from his lawyer, he claimed the sex was consensual, and that she made two requests after the sex: money and a job.
