New Jersey Democratic strategist James Devine created the hashtags #HuntRepublicans and #HuntRepublicanCongressmen after the targeted shooting of GOP reps in Virginia this week and he isn’t sorry in the least.
Devine, who has run for office himself, has consulted for numerous campaigns in his home state, according to HeatStreet, and has worked for state lawmakers. He was also arrested for shoplifting “lettuce, protein powder and hair conditioner” three years ago. HeatStreet reports, “And in 2015, state election officials charged the Democratic strategist with 23 separate election-law violations; the Election Law Enforcement Commission claimed he never reported nearly $79,000 in contributions and more than $70,000 in expenditures involving his Central Jersey Democratic Leadership Committee.”
In a Facebook post this week, Devine said he had “little sympathy” for Rep. Steve Scalise, who was critically injured in the shooting.
He doubled down on his Twitter message during an interview, stating, “If you want to invite a class war, then you have to expect people to fight back at some point.”
Devine said anyone offended by his hashtags are “GOP snowflakes” even though he admitted they were “insensitive.”
But he adamantly declared, “I don’t care. You want me to be politically correct? I don’t have time for that anymore.”
