Media Doesn’t Really Know What a “Selfie” Is – Uses Term Incorrectly

Why are people in the media calling many pictures “selfies” when they are not actually self-taken images? I know this seems trivial, but it’s starting to bug me.

Media Doesn’t Know What a “Selfie” Really Is

“Selfies” are pictures that someone takes of him/her self, not just any close-up image of someone. “Selfies” are easy to spot because one hand is usually out of frame because it is holding the camera.

More and more though, we are seeing all media calling pictures “selfies” when they are not. Stop it!
If you can see both hands in the picture, it is most likely NOT a real “Selfie”, so don’t call it one.
